A Ukrainian Embassy consul on August 31 visited an unlawfully convicted Ukrainian man, Oleksiy Chyrniy, who is serving a seven-year sentence at Lefortovo prison in Moscow.

“At the meeting the Ukrainian consul enquired about his fellow citizen’s prison conditions and health, and the way he is being treated, or mistreated, by the prison administration,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry’s consular department said on Facebook.

The consul also met with the penitentiary administration and asked them to organize Chyrniy’s medical examination.

According to Russian investigators, Chyrniy abetted Ukrainian film director Oleh Sentsov who was sentenced by the North Caucasus District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don in August 2015 to 20 years at a high-security prison for setting up a terrorist group in Crimea. Chyrniy got seven years.
