You're reading: Ukrainian economy minister: Kyiv, Moscow may partially revise gas agreements

The gas agreements between Russia and Ukraine may be partially revised soon, Economy Minister Bohdan Danylyshyn has said in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

“I think that in the near future we may hold negotiations on the gas
issue with Russia concerning some corrections in the agreement signed
at the beginning of 2009, in particular, the volumes of deliveries and
maybe even the structure of the formula connected with price formation.
I think we will also raise the question of Russian gas transit over
Ukrainian territory,” he said.

The Ukrainian minister hopes that the sides will be able to find terms convenient both for Moscow and Kyiv.

“Ukraine holds a very constructive position on this issue, and we would like our partners to hold such a position too,” he said.

Danylyshyn also said the current agreements were very important.

“The agreements signed at the beginning of 2009 are of course very
favorable to us, as they brought elementary order to the gas sphere and
set a definite regulatory basis of relations between Gazprom and
Naftogaz Ukrainy. That’s why even the fact of signing of such agreement
was very, very positive,” he said.
