Ukrainian farmers staged 24 rallies and blocked highways in 10 regions in Ukraine on Dec. 28, protesting against change in taxation, the National Police's preventive action department reported on Dec. 28 evening.

“Such events took place in Vinnytsia, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Khmelnytsky, Kherson, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, and Chernihiv regions,” it said.

“Some of the rallies, namely in Vinnytsia region, in the city of Zaporizhia, and Kyiv and Khmelnytsky regions involved quite many participants – from 200 to 500 people,” it added.

The farmers were protesting against amendments to the Ukrainian laws on taxation in agriculture.

“Participants of most of the rallies used vehicles, namely farming equipment – from 10 to 90 units, to attract attention to their problems. With the same aim in 19 cases they blocked traffic along highways,” the department said.

The National Police said it had taken measures to ensure law and order and prevent crimes. Policemen also arranged bypassing traffic.
