The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry will continue making every effort to release the Ariana, a ship with 24 Ukrainian crewmembers aboard, which has been held by Somali pirates for about five-and-a-half months.
“The Foreign Ministry and other agencies involved are working to
release our [sailors] as soon as possible,” First Deputy Foreign
Minister Volodymyr Khandohiy said at a briefing in Kyiv on Monday.
As reported, on May 2, 2009, Somali pirates captured the Ariana in
the Gulf of Aden. All 24 members of the ship’s crew are Ukrainians.
