Up to five terrorists were killed in an operation Ukrainian security forces conducted in Sloviansk, Donetsk region, on Thursday, the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported.

“In the course of an antiterrorist operation, Interior Ministry and
Defense Ministry units unblocked and destroyed three checkpoints of
illegal armed units in the northeastern part of Sloviansk. Up to five
terrorists have been killed in an armed clash. Among the participants in
the operation, one soldier was wounded,” the ministry said.

The Russian news TV channel Rossiya-24 cited the separatist forces in
Sloviansk as claiming that they had managed to regain a checkpoint on a
road leading toward the city center. “Only half an hour ago, militiamen
managed to regain this site. Three APCs that had approached it had to
retreat,” Rossiya-24 said.

The TV channel described the roadblock located about 3 kilometers
away from the city as a key one, as the road that it blocks leads
directly to the city center.

Donetsk separatists had said earlier that several checkpoints outside
Sloviansk were fired upon, and mobile communication in the city was
disabled.
