Militants from the self-proclaimed republics of Donbas committed more than 20 shellings of the Ukrainian positions, the press center of Ukraine's anti-terrorist operation (ATO) headquarters said on Thursday.

Since the beginning of the day, 23 instances of shelling have been recorded, including the nine times that the Ukrainian positions were shelled in Avdiyivka, the press center said in the summery evening report published on its Facebook page.

The situation remains difficult, but under control, according to the Ukrainian headquarters.

In the Donetsk sector, the adversary opened fire, using large-caliber machineguns and small arms, on locations near Opytne, Vodiane, and Butivka coalmine, the headquarters said.

Militants shelled fortifications of the Ukrainian forces near Luhanske and Nevelske, using the types of mortars prohibited by the Minsk agreements, it said.

In Luhansk sector, the adversary subjected to shelling one time each of the populated areas of Triohizbenka and Stanytsia Luhanska, using grenade launchers and small arms, it said.

Ukrainian forces opened return fire three times, the headquarters said.
