You're reading: Ukrainian president, Marshall of Polish Sejm discuss humanitarian issues, parliamentary cooperation

Kyiv, September 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has met with Marshall of the Sejm (the Lower House of the Polish Parliament) Bronislaw Komorowski and discussed with him issues of "historical reconciliation and the assessment of episodes in the histories of the two countries."

The meeting took place in Warsaw on Monday as part of Yuschenko’s state visit to Poland, the presidential press service reported.

The sides stressed the importance of the continuation of systemic and effective cooperation between the Ukrainian and Polish parliaments.

They also spoke about the development of Ukrainian-Polish-Lithuanian cooperation as part of the inter-parliamentary assembly of the three countries.

Yuschenko said that Ukraine was hoping to gain Poland’s further support for Kyiv’s plans to join the European Union and NATO.
