Kyiv, January 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) –Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has promised his Slovak counterpart Ivan Gasparovic that Ukraine will find a way out of the Ukrainian-Russian gas dispute.

“I am convinced that we will find a way out of this difficult situation,” the presidential press service quoted Yuschenko as saying at a meeting with Gasparovic in Kyiv on Friday.

He said that Slovakia remains “a friend and special partner” for Ukraine.

Yuschenko said that Ukraine is meeting all of its international and bilateral commitments with Russia on gas transit. He also said that the reasons for Russia’s decision to halt gas deliveries to Ukraine and Europe remains unclear for him.

“Of course, there are options in this situation, but it is not a problem of transit of gas and its supplies,” he said.

Yuschenko said that this sort of situation is a “challenge to everybody” and proper steps should be taken to ensure energy security for countries.

Naftogaz Ukrainy CEO Oleh Dubyna, who also participated in the meeting, briefed Gasparovic on the causes and consequences of Ukraine’s gas row with Russia.
