You're reading: Ukrainian speaker calls for improved dialogue with Russia

KYIV (Interfax-Ukraine) – Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Lytvyn has said that Ukraine currently needs to improve its dialogue with Russia and other states formerly part of the Soviet Union, both at the highest level and at the level of parliaments.

He said this during a meeting with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Grigory Karasin on Monday, the Ukrainian parliament’s press service reported.

Lytvyn expressed hope that Ukraine and Russia would coordinate their measures to overcome the economic crisis to reach positive results.

In his turn, Karasin said the financial and economic crisis provides an opportunity to unite efforts and overcome a difficult situation together. He also said that all the problems in relations should be settled in friendly atmosphere.

Apart from this, Lytvyn offered to hold a meeting of the Ukrainian-Russian interparliamentary commission for cooperation soon.
