Police in Spain arrested eleven people from former Soviet republics who organized a network for trafficking women for sexual exploitation.

The organization was headed by a Ukrainian woman, the Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty reported, with reference to Spanish national police.

According to the report, women were mostly taken from various cities in Russia and sent to Spain with a tourist visa.

The exploited women were forced to work on the island of Tenerife, as well as in the cities of Barcelona and Tarragona, where the organization owned several apartments.

The police of Spain started an investigation last year after the Russian authorities provided information on the activities of the criminal gang.
