You're reading: Ukrainians buy $798.3 million more in foreign currency than they sell in August

The Ukrainian public in August 2009 bought $798.3 million more foreign currency than it sold, while in July Ukrainians bought $1.161.6 billion more than tey sold, according to a statement on the National Bank of Ukraine's official Web site.

According to the reports, in August Ukrainians sold $1.382.5 billion
in currency, and purchased $2.180.8 billion. Currency sales by the
public grew by 0.1% and purchase by 14.3% compared to July.

The total volume of deals on the cash market in August grew by 9.3%, to $3.563.3 billion compared to July.

According to the NBU, the volume of bank deposits of individuals in
freely convertible currency last month grew by $392 million (in July by
$397.9 million), to $13.32 billion (in dollar equivalent).

As reported, in 2008 the volume of bank deposits held by individuals
in freely convertible currency rose by 8.6%, to $13.668 billion.
