Ukraine will have to repay $400 million in foreign borrowing by the end of 2009, Ukraine's Acting Finance Minister Ihor Umansky has said.
“We’ll have to make the main payment on the state budget by the end
of the year, and it amounts to around $400 million,” he told reporters
in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Umansky said that the overall amount of this year’s debt liabilities was UAH 42 billion.
“UAH 42 billion is the sum of this year’s debt,” he said.
As reported, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko said while presenting
the draft state budget for 2010 that “[Ukraine] will return UAH 42
billion in our [debt] liabilities by the end of the year on time,
without any delay, notwithstanding the difficult situation with the
replenishment of the state budget. And we’ll do that without damaging
our image and Ukraine’s position.”
The official hryvnia exchange rate on September 16 is UAH 8.0042/$1.
