Ukrainian authorities say they have sent six migrants from the Democratic Republic of Congo back home for violating entry regulations.

The
United Nations’ refugee agency condemned the decision, saying at least
one of the travelers intended to seek political asylum in Ukraine.

State
Border Service spokesman Serhiy Astakhov said the migrants were sent
back on a plane Wednesday afternoon. The service said in a statement
the visitors lacked the money required to enter the country and lied
about the purpose of their trip.

The U.N. High Commissioner for
Refugees said persons in need of international protection should be
exempt from those rules. The group also said authorities prevented its
employees from interviewing the migrants.
