Ukraine needs to act to lessen its vulnerability in the energy sphere, leader of United Centre Party, OUPSD Leader Ihor Kril said in an interview to the Hazeta po-Ukrainsky newspaper.

According to Kril, “both the parliament and the government should understand that they cannot ‘sit in trenches.’ There should be coordinated actions, which would help Ukraine to lessen its vulnerability in the energy sphere.”

Kril also said Ukraine should start talks with European countries on signing direct agreements for the transit of Russian gas.

Direct agreement with European countries, Kril said, would shut down “the gas racket used by our neighbor. Russia has made European countries hostages and instruments of its geopolitical and geo-economic ambitions. This would show that Ukraine is [part of] Europe,” he said.
