Representatives of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional election commission have attributed the discovery of 191,000 invalid ballot papers in Ivano-Frankivsk to errors in the names of candidates.

"Representatives of the territorial election commission are claiming that there were errors in the ballot papers because of technological and technical defects. In particular, the names of candidates were incorrectly written and the forms themselves were the wrong ones," Vasyl Hultaichuk, head of the center for public relations at the main department of the Interior Affairs Ministry, said.

According to him, all the ballot papers have been destroyed.

In addition, according to him, the issue of launching a criminal case is being considered and the relevant materials have been sent to prosecutors.

Oleksandr Sych, the leader of the Ivano-Frankivsk regional chapter of the Svoboda political party, some of the fake ballot papers might have been taken away.

According to Sych, the ballot papers were printed with the aim of rigging the elections in favor of the authorities.

The Batkivschyna party earlier announced that fake ballot papers had been printed in the Kharkiv and Khmelnytskyi regions.

Local elections are scheduled for October 31.
