On the Sept. 16, 2000, anniversary of the murder of Ukrainian journalist Georgiy Gongadze, the Committee to Protect Journalists wrote: “Nine years after the murder of Gongadze, his family and friends still do not know who ordered the brutal slaying of our colleague. Authorities achieved progress by arresting his killers and locating valuable evidence, and we commend that. However, to accomplish long overdue justice in this case, Ukrainian prosecutors should bring to court the masterminds."
