Th Verkhovna Rada has passed changes to the presidential election law. Backed by 316 lawmakers, the law cuts the period of campaigning from 120 to 90 days. The new law also changes the order of forming electoral commissions – now by presidential candidates (one member from one candidate to one electoral commission), not by parliamentary factions, as before. The law raises the amount of down payment by candidates from the present Hr 500,000 to Hr 2.5 million.
