Where is Kyiv's eccentric mayor, nicknamed 'Kosmos' for his odd behavior?

Responding to accusations that the capital’s mayor has not been seen in public in weeks and maybe on a long term vacation, acting head of Kyiv City State Administration Anatoliy Holubchenko said on July 31 that the eccentric Leonid Chernovetsky is not planning to leave Ukraine during his week-long vacation. But he provided little detail on where, exactly, the mayor is and why he has not been seen at work or in public for weeks.

“I can’t tell you where [the mayor is staying]. But I am sure he is in Ukraine, maybe Crimea,” Holubchenko told the press on Friday.

Speaking about the mayor’s vacation, he said: “I think he understands that a big election is approaching. There is a lot of work to do to keep Kyiv [safe] from the political ambitions of various sides.

Holubchenko said that the mayor would return to work on August 3.

He said that the mayor would have another weeklong vacation after two weeks of work.

Some mass media have reported that Chernovetsky is currently in the United States with his wife and several assistants.
