Tania Rydnuk saw everything. At around 2:15 p.m., three men began working at the corner of Tereshchenkivska St. and Shevchenko St. in Kyiv. Minutes later there was a loud explosion, followed by a man with his clothes ablaze running from the work site.

“His clothes were burning and a
second worker started to take them off him as he called an ambulance,” Rydnuk said.

Police and firefighters
arrived on the scene within minutes to take the two workers and another man to
a nearby burn center for treatment. One of the men is reportedly in serious
condition, while the other two are believed to be in better shape.

Rydnuk said that it all
happened very quickly.

According to municipal
services, the three men had struck a high-voltage power cable during schedule
maintenance.

City officials said that there
was no explosion during the incident, despite the loud noise and eyewitness
accounts.

Following the incident, police
and KyivEnergo workers came to the site to investigate.
