The high deficit of the national budget could adversely affect the pace of economic growth in Ukraine, according to World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Philippe Le Houerou.

“The issue of the state deficit is a very important one. If it is
too high, it will stop economic growth in Ukraine,” he said at a
meeting with Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko on Monday in Kyiv.

He said that the World Bank is ready to give any aid to Ukraine to settle the issue.

“We’re ready to cooperate with the government team to restrict the fiscal deficit as more as possible,” he said.

In particular, Le Houerou said that the bank is ready to provide aid
to Ukraine to improve social models and the state finance management
system.
