President Viktor Yanukovych and Prime Minister Mykola Azarov have commemorated victims of the Holodomor artificial famine in the country in 1932-1933.

They took part in the commemorative ceremony in the territory of the National Museum-Memorial to Holodomor Victims in Ukraine.

Presidential Administration’s head Serhii Liovochkin and National Security and Defense Council’s secretary Raisa Bohatyriova also participated in the event.

They held a minute of silence to commemorate the Holodomor victims and participated in the memorial service near the monuments to the Holodomor victims.

As Ukrainian News reported, President Viktor Yuschenko declared the year of 2008 as the year of commemorating victims of Holodomor in Ukraine in 1932-1933.

In 2006 the Verkhovna Rada recognized Holodomor 1932-1933 genocide against the Ukrainian nation. According to various data, 3 to 7 million people died from famine in 1932-1933.
