President Viktor Yanukovych has called on French businesspeople to invest in Ukraine.
"I amencouraging French companies to become partners in implementation of projects in which our countries have a mutual interest," Yanukovych said during a working lunch at the headquarters of the Movement of French Enterprises.

Yanukovych said that about 300 enterprises with French capital operate in Ukraine.

According to him, the potential for economic cooperation between Ukraine and France has not been fully realized.

"We should change this situation for the better. I have spoken about this with French government representatives, particularly with President Sarkozy, who shares this approach… The same applies to possible joint projects in the telecommunications industry," Yanukovych said.

Yanukovych also stressed that such cooperation is particularly important during Ukraine’s preparation to host the 2012 European football championships.

More than 750,000 French businesses of various sizes and from various sectors are members of MEDEF.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Yanukovych traveled to France on October 7 for an official visit.

Ukraine and France reached agreement on cooperation in the period of 2011-2012 during the visit.
