Leader of the Regions Party Viktor Yanukovych calls a statement by Interior Minister Yuriy Lutsenko on the alleged intentions of the Regions Party to topple the government of Yulia Tymoshenko and appoint a new one headed by Mykola Azarov a fantasy.
“This is a product of his [Lutsenko’s] fantasy. No plan existed or
exists,” Yanukovych said a press conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
Moreover, the Regions Party leader said that his faction is not
conducting and didn’t conduct any negotiations in the parliament on
creating a new majority in the Verkhovna Rada.
“As for any negotiations on the creation of a coalition… we haven’t
conducted any. And I want to say that MPs in the Verkhovna Rada always
search for ways to vote for this or that law so as to reach a
consensus,” he said.
According to him, one of such consensus was achieved in voting on a
draft law on a rise in the level of the living wage and minimum wage.
“This is a good example that sometimes MPs still have a conscience and can unite and vote,” he said.
Yanukovych noted that Ukraine is facing rather difficult times before the elections.
“In fact, the prime minister is not working today, although she
claims otherwise on billboards. Currently she is working on her
election campaign. The president is working on the same thing,” he said
According to Yanukovych, in such conditions the parliament should work regularly as an effective controlling body.
