A decree posted on the website of President Viktor Yanukovych announced the dismissal of Colonel General Hennadiy Vorobyov.

General Vorobyov served as Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from November 2009.

He was born on June 25, 1961 in Akhalkalaki in Georgia. In 1982 he graduated from the M. Frunze Kyiv Higher Combined Arms Command School.

His service began as commander of a motorized infantry platoon in the Trans-Baikal Military District.

From 1984 to 1990, he served as commander of a reconnaissance platoon, commander of a motorized infantry company, the chief of staff – deputy commander of the infantry battalion in the army Trans-Baikal Military District and the Group of Soviet Forces in Germany.

In 1993 he graduated from the M. Frunze Military Academy. From 1993 to 2002, He served as chief of staff – deputy commander of an infantry regiment, and commanded a mechanized regiment, a mechanized brigade, the Mechanized Infantry Division in the Carpathian Military District and the Western Operational Command of the Army of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
