Chernihiv region, October 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Regions Party leader Viktor Yanukovych has criticized the government for failing to take measures to prevent the possible bankruptcy of National JSC Naftogaz Ukrainy.

“If a strategic enterprise like Naftogaz Ukrainy becomes bankrupt, the whole economy of the country will take a huge hit. We can’t allow this to happen,” he said in Chernihiv region on Friday.

“But we don’t know what the government is doing to prevent this… unfortunately,” Yanukovych added.

According to the Regions Party leader, starting with the current year the situation at Naftogaz Ukrainy has become threatening. In particular, he noted that every month the country is “under pressure” on the eve of making payments to Gazprom of Russia.

Yanukovych also described is as “abnormal” for funds from domestic state loan bonds to be used to pay for gas.

“Of course, such approach doesn’t give much hope for the future. But one day this will come to an end,” the Regions Party leader said.
