The Regions Party’s faction in parliament will next week raise the question of creating an efficient majority in the Verkhovna Rada during the presidential campaign.
“Troubles will come if there’s currently no unity in parliament.
Next week, we’ll raise this question for the sake of tackling the
crisis and for the sake of exercising control over economic processes
during the presidential campaign, which currently became
uncontrollable,” party leader Viktor Yanukovych told Chernivtsi
television and radio company on Tuesday.
He stressed the need to prevent the country from being left to the
mercy of fate when representatives of the current authorities will
participate in the presidential elections.
The current parliamentary coalition includes the factions of the
Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko, the Our Ukraine – People’s Self-Defense Bloc
and the Bloc of Lytvyn.
The Verkhovna Rada includes five factions – the Regions Party (175
MPs), the Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (156 MPs), the Our Ukraine –
People’s Self-Defense Bloc (72 MPs), the Communist Party (27 MPs), and
the Bloc of Lytvyn (20 MPs).
