The parliamentary faction of the Regions Party will seek the equal use of Russian and Ukrainian by implementing the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
“We’ll implement the European Charter that will practically resolve this problem [with the use of Russian], and we’ll soon forget it,” he said live on Mykolaiv regional television on Saturday.
Yanukovych said that at least 226 votes would be required to take such a decision in parliament, and added that a “presidential pen should be in a reliable hand.” Then he showed a ballpoint pen in his right hand, implying what hand should hold the pen while signing a law on the implementation of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
