Kyiv, September 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Arseniy Yatseniuk, the Front for Change public initiative leader, is against the cancellation of a moratorium on land privatization in Ukraine.
“Land is the last national capital that remains in
Ukraine. That’s all, nothing more is left. Now, they are going to sell
several plants more and this will be the end,” he has said at a press
conference in Kyiv on Thursday.
According to Yatseniuk, Ukraine’s future depends on whether Ukrainians still have land capital.
He also considers that the cancellation of the moratorium on the land privatization is possible under certain conditions.
In particular, the Front for Change public
initiative leader noted that only citizens of Ukraine could own the
land, foreigners shouldn’t have a property right to land. Moreover,
according to the politician, only individuals should have property
rights to land.
The purpose of using land should be another condition, Yatseniuk said.
“If it is the agricultural land, then it should be used only for this purpose,” he said.
Yatseniuk considers that the state should appoint an agent in order to prevent speculation on the land market.
“This would be an agent that buys all the land and
sells the land, and which prevents speculation on the land market,” he
said, adding that this was European practice.
