You're reading: Yatseniuk against early withdrawal of Russian fleet from Ukraine

Leader of NGO Front of Changes Arseniy Yatseniuk has spoken out against the early withdrawal of the Russian Black Sea Fleet from Ukraine and a review of conditions for its presence in Sevastopol.

He made the comment in an interview with the TBi television channel, his press service reported.

“Ukraine has an agreement on the temporary presence of the Black Sea
fleet in Ukraine. I emphasize the word ‘temporary.’ This is a key
phrase of the agreement. The date has been chosen – this is 2017 – the
date when the agreement expires. Given this, nobody can raise the
question of the fleet’s early withdrawal from Ukraine and nobody can
raise the question of unilaterally amending the terms of this agreement
concerning any increase in the rent for the stationing of the Black Sea
fleet,” Yatseniuk said.

In his opinion, the debate on this issue will not become urgent until at least 2017.
