Leader of the Front for Change public initiative Arseniy Yatseniuk believes that Ukraine, which has huge coal deposits, is destined to be a coal producing country, and the government should encourage investments into the industry.
He said this in an interview with the Fakty (Facts) Newspaper on the eve of the Coal Miner Day observed on August 30.
“In my judgment, before holding a military parade marking the 18th
anniversary of the country’s independence, the president should have
thought about the Makiyivka tragedy,” Yatseniuk stressed.
Eight miners were killed, nineteen injured on August 23 as a result
of a discharge of coal-and-gas mixture, which occurred at a depth of
190 meters at the Kirov coalmine at the town of Makiyivka, Donetsk
region.
