Ukraine cuts gas consumption by 19 percent during the period between January and September 2015, if compared with the previous year, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said at a cabinet meeting on Nov. 11.

“We’ve saved 19 percent of natural gas,” he said.

He said that gas consumption fell thanks to gas sector reform, the introduction of market tariffs for gas, and a wide subsidy program. Around 4.1 million families received subsidies.

Yatseniuk said that the cabinet plans to increase the number of credits issued to the public for energy efficiency measures.

He said that 60,000 households received credits worth Hr 1 billion, and that the state compensates from 20 percent to 60 percent of the cost of energy efficiency measures.
