Moscow, January 15 (Interfax) - The Young Russia movement plans to stage a rally in Moscow on Jan. 17, the day of the presidential elections in Ukraine, to express its support for Ukraine's Russian-speaking population.

"More than one hundred activists of the Young Russia movement will gather outside the Ukrainian embassy in Russia at 2:00 p.m. on January 17 to hold a rally to support the rights of the Russian-speaking population living in the territory of Ukraine," the movement said in a press release on Jan. 14.

The Young Russia-led rally has been authorized by the Moscow authorities, it said.

"On the day of Ukraine’s presidential elections, activists of the movement will demand that the future president recognize the rights of the Russian-speaking population in the territory of Ukraine and abandon [incumbent Ukrainian President] Victor Yushchenko’s anti-Russian policy in order to build friendly relations with Russia and preserve the Russian language and culture in Ukraine," the movement said.

"Activists will bring "pieces" of Russian culture from their homes: Russian language textbooks, ABC books, classical works of Russian literature and DVDs of famous films in the Russian language," it said.

"After a short theatrical performance and speeches, the activists will put all these symbols of Russian culture in a parcel and will ask the embassy to hand it over to Ukraine’s new president," the movement said.

All through Jan. 17, Young Russia members will conduct their own exit poll among Ukrainian citizens who will cast their ballots at a polling station on the premises of Ukraine’s diplomatic mission in Moscow, it said.
