Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has asked Prosecutor General Oleksandr Medvedko to give a legal assessment of the actions of officials from the State Property Fund of Ukraine (SPF) taken while selling OJSC Odesa Port-Side Chemical Plant and take measures foreseen to bring to justice those guilty of violating the law, the Ukrainian presidential press service has reported.
Yushchenko said the approach to the privatization of strategic
objects taken by the government and the SPF at the tender to sell the
plant was completely unacceptable.
disregard for court rulings was demonstrated yet again, the president
said.
Paying no attention to a presidential order and court decisions, the
SPF violated the law and conducted the planned tender, carrying out
shady agreements with the government, the president claimed. With the
aim of making the government’sillegal actions public, investors refused
to give a realistic price for the risky object of privatization, he
said.
