Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has informed the leaders of large Jewish organizations in the United States on measures being taken by Ukraine to prevent the spread of anti-Semitism and xenophobia.
The head of state was speaking at the 64th session of the UN General
Assembly in New York on Wednesday, his presidential press service
reported.
Yushchenko also spoke about Ukraine’s initiatives to fight outbreaks of anti-Semitism and xenophobia in the country.
“The president said that there currently were no significant
problems in Ukraine linked to anti-Semitism and xenophobia,” reads the
statement.
Yushchenko said that Ukraine is ready to maintain a friendly and open
dialogue with international Jewish organizations and is continuing to
strengthen itself as a peaceful state, in which all nations and ethnic
groups feel at home and in which there is no place for xenophobia and
racial intolerance.
