Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has congratulated his Brazilian counterpart Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva on Rio de Janeiro’s being chosen to host the 2016 Olympic Games.
“Accept my sincere greetings on the choice of Rio de Janeiro as a host of the 2016 Olympic Games,” the presidential press service quoted Yuschenko’s letter to President Silva.
Yuschenko said that the Brazilian city’s victory has been another acknowledgement by the international community of Brazilia’s new role in the world.
The Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro was selected by the International Olympic Committee on Friday as the host for the 2016 Olympic Games, thus beating Madrid, Tokyo and Chicago.
