Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has congratulated Ukrainian Muslims on the holiday of the holy month of Ramadan and the start of fasting.
“The time of prayer and fasting, filled with deep spirituality,
strengthens faith and gives vigor and hope for a happy future,” reads
the president’s letter of congratulation, the presidential press
service reported on Friday.
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the month
of fasting in which participating Muslims refrain from eating,
drinking, sexual conduct, smoking, and indulging in anything that is in
excess or ill-natured, from dawn until sunset.
