Baturyn (Chernihiv region), August 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko has welcomed the country's national revival.
“National revival is our holy task that we should
fulfill for our next generations,” he said in Baturyn in Chernihiv
region on Saturday, while opening the reconstructed palace of the last
Ukrainian Hetman Kyrylo Rozumovsky.
Yuschenko said that the National Museum of Ukrainian Revival was located in this palace.
He also said since the time of Kyrylo Rozumovsky,
nobody had lived in the palace and that no funds had been allocated
from the state budget for its reconstruction.
“After he received his education in Europe, Hetman
Kyrylo Rozumovsky, under the conditions of Russian absolutism, wanted
to build Ukraine as an independent state of European style,” Yuschenko
said, commenting on the hetman’s merits.
The president thanked architects, historians,
builders, restorers, and philanthropists for their assistance in
reconstructing the palace.
