Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has suggested that parliament again consider the law amending the national budget to allocate additional financing for hosting the Euro 2012 football championship in Ukraine taking into account his proposals.
Yushchenko sent a relevant letter to the Verkhovna Rada on September 4, 2009, the presidential press service reported on Monday.
As reported, on October 6 the Verkhovna Rada passed a resolution
recommending that Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko sign law on
financing Ukraine’s preparations for the Euro 2012 European Football
Championship within three days.
If the president refuses to sign the law, the parliament will
empower the Verkhovna Rada chairman to carry out all the procedures to
bring law into force, the document reads.
As reported, on August 21 the Ukrainian parliament overrode a
presidential veto of amendments to the state budget for 2009, which
obliged the National Bank of Ukraine to transfer UAH 9.8 billion to the
state budget to finance the construction of Euro 2012 facilities.
However, the president refused to sign it and returned it to the
parliament as a new law, claiming that certain amendments were made to
the version of the law he previously vetoed.
