President Victor Yushchenko has instructed the Health Ministry and governors of the regions where an anti-flu quarantine has not been introduced to provide extra ambulances to Lviv, one of the cities hardest hit by this week's flu epidemic. Yushchenko's press service announced this to Ukrainian News, citing the instructions he issued at a meeting on influenza in Lviv.
Yushchenko issued the instructions at the request of Lviv’s Mayor, Andriy Sadoviy.
Yushchenko also instructed the governors of the regions worst affected by influenza to partially close down open air markets and other places where the flu could spread easily.
According to Yushchenko, markets should temporarily stop operation or sell only foodstuffs.
Yushchenko also intends to instruct the Cabinet of Ministers boost payments to medical personnel in regions hit hard by the epidemic.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the Health Ministry declared an epidemic of the A(H1N1) influenza in Ukraine on Oct. 30.
The Cabinet of Ministers has introduced a quarantine in nine regions, banned organization of mass events, and closed schools for three weeks because of the epidemic influenza.
