Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has said he is confident that Ukraine's future will be formed depending on the position of the Ukrainian people, and ruled out a military conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
“I would rule out any steps that could be described as military… Threatening with weapons and aggression is currently a very primitive behavior,” he said in interviews with the Ukraina Moloda, Den and Delo newspapers, the presidential press service reported.
Yushchenko also said that each sovereign country had the right to its history, language and national priorities.
He said that it was currently unacceptable that many Ukrainian politicians were currently “playing a political game” in Ukrainian-Russian relations. Yushchenko said that an interstate dialogue between Ukraine and Russia should be based on the principles of equality.
Yushchenko also said that he had never made improper statements against the Russian people or the Russian government.
