The Russian factor will be felt during the presidential election, but it will not have the decisive impact on the outcome of the election, Ukraine's President Viktor Yushchenko has said.
“[Russia’s] influence will be strong as usual, but its consequences
will be weak,” Yushchenko said at a news conference in Kyiv on Wednesday.
“Ukrainian citizens are becoming increasingly aware with every
passing year that the answer to the question: Who will be the
president, depends on them,” he said.
Asked whom Russia will support in the election campaign, Yushchenko
said, “Whom would Russia like to see as president? It’s easier for me
to say, whom it does not want to see as president.”
