There are no alternatives to Ukraine's accession to NATO, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has said in an interview with the Polish newspaper Rzeczpospolita.

Asked how he viewed the statement by a NATO representative that the “alliance won’t support Ukraine in a military way,” Yushchenko said: “We don’t want military support. At the same time, we are seeking to join a pan-European collective security system, and such a system is NATO. There’s no alternative.”

“None of the big states, neither France nor Germany, has any intentions to deal with its security individually,” Yushchenko said.
