Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will take no decision on the possible dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, as this is the prerogative of the parliament itself, according to Ihor Popov, the deputy head of Ukraine's presidential secretariat and the presidential representative in the Verkhovna Rada.
“The president won’t dissolve the Verkhovna Rada six months ahead of elections,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.
He also said that this issue could be resolved by the parliament itself.
“It is up for the Verkhovna Rada to decide whether they want to live together or whether they want dissolution. I wouldn’t like the president to be accused of being part of any intrigues,” Popov said.
He said that the president’s position was the following – the Verkhovna Rada should work and take decisions.
“The president wants effective and constructive decisions from the Verkhovna Rada,” he said.
