The Cabinet of Ministers has asked parliament to support changes to the national budget for 2014, increasing expenditures from the reserve fund to carry out anti-terrorist operations in eastern Ukraine, as a sum of Hr 9.1 billion is needed.

“We previously calculated funding until July 1. Now, in July, we are
carrying out funding at the expense of additional money from the
contingency fund,” Finance Minister Oleksandr Shlapak said at a meeting
of the conciliation board of the parliament.

“At the same time, given the fact that the contingency fund has about Hr 520 million, and the ATO costs more than Hr 1.5 billion per month,
we need to seek additional resources to continue this operation,” he
added.

According to the minister, after consultations with military men the
government calculated “the minimum necessary amount of Hr 9.1 billion
required by the end of this year.”

Furthermore, Shlapak said the government proposes increasing costs
from the reserve fund for restoring normal life in the eastern regions
liberated from anti-government militants.
