WASHINGTON - The Canadian authorities will maintain pressure on Russia to cease its aggression in Ukraine's east, Canadian Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said in a statement on Thursday.
“Canada is deeply concerned by the escalation in violence in eastern Ukraine,” the statement reads.
“Russia must immediately withdraw its troops and weapons from sovereign Ukrainian territory and cease its material support to insurgents,” Baird said.
“Russia and the insurgents must also adhere to the ceasefire and remove heavy weaponry from the agreed-upon areas,” he added.
