DONETSK - The facilities of the Voda Donbassa (the Water of Donbas) company continue being destroyed as a result of the hostilities in Donetsk Oblast, a company spokesperson said.

The shelling in the early hours of Dec. 4 damaged the Volyntsevska water filtering station which supplies water to the towns of Yunokomunarivsk, Kirovske, Zhdanivka, Torez, Snizhne, Shakhtarsk, as well as the villages of Olkhovatka and Maloorlivka, the spokesperson said. The shelling smashed window glass and made an overhead power line, utility poles and communication lines nonoperational.

“The station’s power supply was restored thanks to a backup power source. However, the shelling resumed after noon today. As a result, the Volyntsevska filtering station was cut off the power grids,” the statement said.

A Donetsk filtering station came under intense fire as well during nighttime, its staff managed to escape into a bomb shelter, the spokesperson said.

The situation around the water supply remains very difficult in the towns of Torez and Shakhtarsk. Because of the disruptions as a result of damage caused by shelling of the Novostozhkovsky and Kirovsky water pipeline systems, these towns are getting no more than 50 percent of what they should.
