TALLINN -The Estonian Cabinet of Ministers on Jan. 15 spoke against tougher sanctions against Russia.
The government press service told Interfax an opinion that “there are no grounds for changing the policies on the EU-Russia track because Russia […] is not observing the Minsk agreements” had been voiced at a meeting addressing Estonia’s position in the meeting of the EU Council of Foreign Ministers scheduled to be held on Jan. 19.
“By introducing sanctions, the European Union gave a powerful signal to Russia that it does not accept these major violations of international law. We should continue the sanctions,” Estonian Foreign Minister Keit Pentus-Rosimannus said.
Pentus-Rosimannus also said the international public should take the situation with Crimea into account.
