You're reading: EU military committee chief says east Ukraine conflict cannot be resolved by military means

The crisis in the east of Ukraine cannot be resolved by military force, Chairman of the European Union Military Committee Patrick de Rousiers has said.

He said at a press conference on Nov. 14 that views had been exchanged with the chiefs of defense of the EU member states on what is happening in the eastern part of Europe, in Ukraine and near the country. He said that the most important thing was that the situation could not be resolved by military means and that there should be a process of political settlement.

De Rousiers said that the situation in the east of Ukraine would be discussed next week at a meeting of the foreign and defense ministers of the EU member states.
