BRUSSELS - The European Union plans to start an advisory mission for the reform of the civilian security sector of Ukraine on Dec. 1, spokesperson for EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, Maja Kocijancic, wrote on Twitter.
“EU to launch Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform in Ukraine on Dec. 1, signs agreement,” she tweeted.
This decision was taken during a meeting of the EU Council at the level of foreign ministers, which took place in Brussels. The initial mandate of the mission is intended for two years.
Mogherini and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin signed an agreement on the status of the mission during their meeting.
As reported, the EU Advisory Mission for Civilian Security Sector Reform Ukraine (EUAM Ukraine) was established by the EU Council on July 22, as an unarmed, non-executive civilian mission.
EU advisers will initially focus on supporting the elaboration of revised security strategies and the rapid implementation of reforms. The mission’s headquarters will be in Kyiv.
