The Ukrainian authorities have blamed militants for shelling the village of Sartana outside of Mariupol on Feb. 5 morning.

“Sartana was shelled. Fifteen houses were directly hit. Gas mains and power lines were damaged,” Kostiantyn Batozky, an advisor to the former Donetsk region governor, said on his Facebook account on Thursday morning.

Batozky, however, did not say whether anyone had been killed or injured in the strikes.

Oleh Slobodian, an aide to the director of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service, also said on his Facebook page that Sartana village had come under fire last night. He claims that positions of Ukrainian border guards and Armed Forces servicemen were attacked as well.

According to Mariupol’s “0629” website, the latest strikes targeted the same residential areas that were shelled on Jan. 20, when about a dozen houses were destroyed.

Ukraine’s military also claimed that Grad multiple-launch rocket systems had been fired against the army’s checkpoint in Sartana.

“The preliminary information available indicates that no civilians and no army personnel were killed or injured. A Kamaz truck was damaged. Its tires got completely burned down,” they said.
